What we need from you to supply R-22

R-22 is supplied for servicing existing equipment only. Before the first supply we need your firm name and GSTIN, the servicing purpose, and a buyer declaration under Rule 7 of the ODS Rules. We record the sale in our register and file returns on it. It is one signature, done once, and it is what separates a lawful R-22 supply from an unlawful one.

Why R-22 is different from the rest of our range

Every other gas we stock can be bought like any other industrial product. R-22 cannot, because it is an ozone-depleting substance controlled under the ODS Rules, 2000, which sit under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.

Two things follow. The seller must hold registration under Rule 6, which we do: ODS/CS/17/6(12)/2024-OC, dated 12.11.2024. And the buyer, for a regulated end use, signs a declaration under Rule 7. Manufacturing new equipment with HCFCs has been prohibited in India since 1 January 2025, so the lawful purpose for a purchase now is servicing equipment that already exists.

The four things we ask for

  • Firm name and GSTIN. For the invoice, and so the sale is attributable in our register.
  • The servicing purpose. What the gas is going into. A chiller, a cold room, a packaged unit, a customer's split system under an AMC.
  • The buyer declaration. A signed statement under Rule 7 covering who you are and the end use. Once, not per order.
  • Quantity and destination. The ordinary commercial detail, same as any other order.

If you buy R-22 regularly, this is a first-visit exercise. Repeat orders run on the record we already hold.

What we do with it

The sale is entered in the register we are required to maintain, and returns are filed under Rule 14. That register is also why we can answer an audit question about a cylinder we sold two years ago, which occasionally matters to a pharmaceutical or cold-chain customer more than it matters to us.

What a buyer should expect from any R-22 seller

Ask for the registration number and its date before you buy, not after. A registered seller will give it without pausing. If a supplier is willing to sell R-22 with no declaration, no register entry and an invoice that just says gas, the price difference is not a discount. It is the cost of the paperwork they are not doing, and it lands on you at audit rather than on them.

Our number and how to check it are on the verification page.
