Why the size matters more than buyers expect
Handling. A 61 kg cylinder needs two people or a trolley and it does not go up a ladder. A technician working on rooftop split units wants the smallest format that covers the day's work.
Storage. Quantity thresholds in the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2016 are what trigger licensed premises. A site holding several large cylinders can cross a threshold it did not know existed. See PESO licensing.
Waste. A part-used cylinder is not a problem, but a part-used cylinder of a zeotropic blend that has been vapour-charged is, because what remains is no longer the designated mixture.
Connections. Every cylinder change is another opportunity to introduce air and moisture. Fewer, larger cylinders means fewer connections on a big job.
Refillable and non-refillable
Most of what we supply is refillable, built to a specification, stamped with a test date and subject to periodic hydrostatic retest. Those cylinders go back into the supply chain.
Non-refillable containers, including the small cans, are single-use by design. Under the Gas Cylinders Rules a non-refillable container must never be refilled, and the reason is straightforward: it was not built for repeated pressure cycling and it carries no test regime.
Refilling disposable cans is a known practice at the bad end of this trade and it is how counterfeit gas reaches the market. See genuine vs counterfeit.
Ordering
Tell us the gas, the format and the quantity, and we confirm against stock. If the size you have been using is short we will say so and offer what is close rather than substituting quietly. See how to order.
Quick answers
What cylinder sizes does R-22 come in?
We stock R-22 in 10 kg, 50 kg and 61 kg cylinders, subject to current stock and varying by brand and batch.
Do you sell small cans of R-134a?
Yes, 450 g cans alongside 10 kg and 62 kg cylinders, subject to current stock.
Can a disposable refrigerant can be refilled?
No. Under the Gas Cylinders Rules, 2016 a non-refillable container must never be refilled. It is not built for repeated pressure cycling and carries no test regime.
What size does R-508B come in?
1 kg and 2 kg cylinders. Ultra-low-temperature cascade charges are small, so the formats reflect that.
