Used as a refrigerant
For decades R-22 was the standard gas in window and split air conditioners, packaged units and many refrigeration plants. India ended the use of HCFCs in manufacturing new equipment on 1 January 2025, so today it is supplied for servicing existing equipment, under shrinking quotas, with a servicing allowance that runs to 1 January 2040.

Used as a feedstock
Chlorodifluoromethane is also the starting material for tetrafluoroethylene, from which PTFE and other fluoropolymers are made. Used this way it is consumed in the reaction rather than released, so feedstock use is exempt from the Montreal Protocol phase-out. That is why it is still produced in large quantities while refrigerant use steps down. The feedstock exemption explains how the two uses are regulated.
Buying it from us
